Where do I start?

So you’ve decided that you want to travel solo. Where do you start though? Start small. You don’t need to jump in with both feet! Depending on where you live it can be as simple as going for lunch or a drink in your hometown. Be a tourist. When was the last time you saw your city or town through the eyes of someone else? Museums are a great solo adventure too. You can spend as little or as much time at each installation as you would like. I once sat for almost two hours looking at Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks in Chicago. Not too many people would have sat with me in silence and I would have felt pressured to move on so being solo was perfect!
If you’re a social person and you’re worried about loneliness, maybe consider a group tour. There are even group tours that specifically cater to solo women, like ours! (Sorry, shameless self-promotion! Click here though if you’re interested!) Cruises are also great for being able to socialize, or not. They tend to have a lot of activities where a solo traveler can meet others. Some cruises actually have solo get-togethers or solo dining tables.
If you’re ready to head out completely on your own, maybe start with somewhere that is fairly similar in culture and/or language. That being said, the whole point of traveling solo is to do what YOU want to do and to go where YOU want to go so take a look at that bucket list and go for it!
